A Presentation of Niklas Adalberth – Co-founder of the E-business Klarna
Niklas Adalberth, born 1981 in Uppsala, is Vice President and Member of the Board in the rapidly growing e-business Klarna. The company, previously called Kreditor, was founded in 2005.
Klarna is a business devoted to simplifying online commerce. The popular payment solution is based on the principle that customers pay upon delivery.
The company was founded by Niklas Adalberth, Victor Jacobsson, and Sebastian Siemiatkowski at Handelshögskolan’s Business Lab. Sebastian presented the idea to Niklas and Victor in late 2004, when they all attended Handelshögskolan.
Since its founding, Klarna has been a rapidly expanding company. Today, it has more than seven hundred employees and is established in six European countries. Klarna continues to grow and will soon be established in several new countries. In addition to operations in Europe, Klarna also has a development and risk analysis office at Tel Aviv, Israel.
The friendship between Niklas Adalberth and Sebastian Siemiatkowski goes back a long time. In their teens, they launched the broadcast Radio Excellent. In high school, Niklas Adalberth pursued studies within a program focusing on the natural sciences. During this time, he also spent a year as an exchange student in Connecticut, USA, and started an IT-company that offered services in web production and graphic design.
Niklas Adalberth did his military service at F16, Uppsala. His rank was Ground Defense Squad Leader. He then moved to the ski resort St. Moritz, Switzerland, where he for a time bartended for Kempinski Hotels.
The stay abroad left Niklas Adalberth hungering for more, and during 2003 he and Sebastian Siemiatkowski undertook a spectacular journey around the world that lasted one hundred and forty-three days.
In total, the two young men visited twenty-five countries and four continents. Before departing, Niklas Adalberth and Sebastian Siemiatkowski had decided against air travel. That was a promise they kept.
Upon returning to Sweden, Niklas Adalberth commenced academic studies in economics, at Lund University. He continued these studies at Handelshögskolan, Stockholm.
In 2011, Niklas Adalberth graduated from Handelshögskolan. But by then, he had, in the course of several years, already witnessed Klarna develop from an idea to a successful operation.
